Every Journey Begins with The First Step

Welcome to the Palmetto Independent Educators Website! This resource is designed to support two fundamental principles – home education should be both affordable and non-intrusive.

Launched from these core values, the purpose of our Website is two-fold. First most, this resource is here to help members of PIE to succeed in their homeschool journey. Secondly, and equally important, our goal is to help families considering homeschooling find the information they need to get started.

This section provides an overview of the resources maintained through our Website. Where transparency permits, much of our content is exclusive to members. Secured content is identified with a lock and requires a login.

Information and services provided through the PIE's Website are courtesy of the office of Palmetto Independent Educators. PIE members are granted permission to access content exclusive to members. We encourage both registered members and unregistered guests to take this opportunity to review this Website's Terms of Use and Privacy Statement. Your use of the Palmetto Independent Educators Website constitutes your agreement to all such terms, conditions, notices, and LIABILITY DISCLAIMER.

PIE particulars currently listed under the About PIE section are as follows:

PIE's Website is an ongoing continuous improvement project. This means that we will be building a comprehensive resource by adding, removing, and maintaining content relevant to homeschooling in South Carolina. Our goal is to process current information and strive for accuracy while keeping our eye on two very important fundamental principles – home education should be both affordable and non-intrusive.

The knowledge base section of our Website, located on the yellow navigation bar as Knowledge Center, is designed to help both registered members and unregistered guests navigate the site. A knowledge base view provides a comprehensive list of pages (with links) organized by topic. It's useful to think of the knowledge base as similar to a sitemap. It's our Knowledge Center!!

Content currently listed under the Knowledge Center are as follows:

  • PIE Particulars
  • Curriculum Matters
  • Billing Matters
  • Record Keeping
  • State Law
  • Support Groups
  • Testing Information
  • Elementary School
  • Middle School
  • High School
  • PIE Pieces

The purpose of the member center is to help members succeed in their journey by making every step count. Our goal is to use the member center to build a comprehensive online resource that will help members make informed decisions toward their educational programs. Every page gaurded by the login feature should be considered part of the member center. However, the actual member center page serves as the dash board designed to put access to the most useful pages of the website at your disposal.

Tools added to the dash board of the Member Center are listed as follows:

  • Quick Launch Buttons
    • Calendar
    • Record Keeping Insights
    • Document Library
    • Knowledge Center
    • Special Needs
    • Elementary School
    • Middle School
    • High School
  • News Aggregate
  • Focus on Curriculum Matters

There's lot's of useful information regarding resources tied to this page.

This resource is for families homeschooling under the auspices of Palmetto Independent Educators (PIE), a third option accountability association operating under South Carolina's Code of law, section 59-65-47.

Education records are perhaps the most intimidating part of an educational program for those considering homeschooling. After all, parents of children who attend either public or private schools are not responsible for this portion of their child's education.

The purpose of RECORD-KEEPING INSIGHTS is to help members of PIE gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of the record-keeping process – power-up, so to speak. Record-keeping is an essential part of the homeschool program for many reasons that parents will want to take full advantage of and are not merely for satisfying law requirements.

As a part of the Record-Keeping Insights initiative, we've provided quality S.M.A.R.T. Advantage Homeschool Planners that are designed to embody criteria for smart goal setting, i.e., specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. These free record-keeping tools are useful for all grades K-12. When used appropriately, these record-keeping tools are more than adequate for satisfying Law-D’s requirement for a plan book, diary, or other record indicating subjects taught and activities in which the student and parent-teacher engage.

Keep in mind, members are not required to use PIE’s record-keeping tools, which are provided free. Alternatively, members can download planners over the Internet or use their choice of resources to make their own.

Two added features to the member center are mailing lists and school year calendar.

For example, members can subscribe to our mailing list to receive future updates to the calendar. Please note that this does not include reminders for existing events. A download feature is included with each event so that those events you are interested in can be downloaded to your calendar where you can set up your reminders (requires a free account with Outlook). This email list alerts you when new events get posted. You can unsubscribe anytime.

We've set aside space for homeschool discounts and programs. In doing so, we also allow members to share homeschool discounts or event information with others. If members would like to add information concerning discounts to our list or share events for home schools through the calendar, we've provided a form that can be used to communicate the details.

PIE’s Record-Keeping Insights, Knowledge Center, Member Center, Calendar, etc., are all designed to serve as our frontline support tools. These are online resources used to convey information to members. We encourage members to use these resources to find information relevant to their specific needs first. If you do not find answers to your questions through these resources, please contact the office using the information posted in the following list.
